Glycolic acid is derived from sugar cane and is an Alpha Hydroxy Acid (AHA). The Glycolic peel uses alphahydroxyacids (AHA’s) to improve signs of aging and sun damage. The AHA’s also work to loosen and remove surface layers of skin. During the treatment a high concentration of glycolic acid is applied to the skin for a short period of time. The glycolic acid is then chemically neutralized to complete the treatment. Glycolic acid works to remove the damaged layer of surface skin cells revealing fresh skin and rebuilding the deeper skin layers. Different concentrations of glycolic acid are used depending on the patient, for example, concentrations usually consist of 20%, 35%, 50% and 70%. The concentration used on a patient will vary depending on their age, lifestyle, skin condition and the number of treatments they have had in the past.
Clarifying peels are combined with glycolic peel, they include 20% mandelic peel (derived from almond) and 10% citric acid Both peels are combined to target oily and acne prone skin.
Brightening peels are combines with glycolic peels, they include 30% citric Acid. Both peels are used to target uneven pigmentation and discolouration such as photo ageing induced dyschromia, sun spots and melasma.
